Biologic Sedimentary Rock
Biologic Sedimentary Rock is formed from pieces of dead creatures or plants.
The rocks made from pieces of dead creatures are commonly formed in the ocean,
the dead creatures being shelled animals, and microscopic creatures like diatoms
and other floating creatures. The rocks made from plants are high in carbon and
are formed in swamps and other locations where decomposition of dead plants are
slowed to the lack of oxygen in the water. Here are some examples:
| Limestone - Limestone is formed from the decomposed remains
of shelled creatures in the ocean, rich in calcium and carbonates.
Limestones can be very thick as creatures dying in the ocean deposit their
remains over the course of millions of years. These rocks often have
fossils (both remains and trace fossils) incorporated in them. Because of
its composition (Calcium Carbonate), limestone fizzes when you drop acid
on it. |

| Coal - Coal is carbon - remains of plants and animals in a
swampy environment. It is black in color. |
