Alma Mater
A Charge to Keep I Have
A charge to keep I have,
A God to glorify,
A never-dying soul to save,
And fit it for the sky.
To serve the present age,
My calling to fulfill;
O may it all my powers engage
To do my Master’s will!
Arm me with jealous care
As in Thy sight to live,
And oh, Thy servant, Lord, prepare
A strict account to give!
Help me to watch and pray,
And on Thyself rely,
Assured, if I my trust betray,
I shall forever die.
- Charles Wesley (1762)
What is a Kare?
We are the Rio Hondo Prep "Kares". This is a unique nickname, not only because of its creative spelling but because a Kare is more than a mascot; it is a way of life. Rio Hondo students are expected to represent "Kare" not only on the field or court, but in everyday life. They Kare about their relationship with their Creator. They Kare for others, putting their own interests aside and learning to serve. They also demonstrate Kare in the classroom which encourages them to excel in academics, creating a Karing environment on campus and a place where the younger students are encouraged and supported. At RHP we don't have a picture or a costumed mascot to represent us, we just have our students. They are the “Kares.”

"Rio Hondo Prep is fun because it’s as homegrown as it gets.
They’re a bunch of Sandlot friends." ~ By Fred Robledo
