RHP Update on the Coronavirus and suspension of classes for two weeks – March 13, 2013

Dear RHP Parents and Students,

As most of you are aware, there are new measures being put into place on a daily basis to contain and prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. The principals of RHP and Pearl, together with Kare Youth League directors are continually monitoring the recommendations of public health officials.

With that in mind, for the safety of our community, it has become necessary to suspend classes on both the Pearl and Rio Hondo Prep campuses for the next 2 weeks.  The students will still be learning, but what that looks like will be different.  In addition, all Kare Youth League activities and team activities have also been suspended.  The campuses will be closed to all student activity.  We will have no official gatherings of students on or off campus during this period.

We told all students to take home books and school materials today.  For the next two weeks, RHP class content will be delivered online by individual subject teachers.  The teachers will be working directly with students via Google Classroom, other online platforms, or even direct email, text and Remind.  Teachers will begin communicating this information to you on Monday. If your student needs logins or other help accessing information, the staff will still be on campus full time over the next two weeks. By working from home on classwork, we are counting these as instructional days.  We will be working to coordinate assignments onto a central platform on the RHP Website over the next week to help parents find work more easily.

There are currently no cases of COVID-19 reported within our Kare Community. Please know that the determination was not made lightly and we recognize that it will introduce some hardships for many of our families. Given the rapidly changing nature of coronavirus outbreak, we will remain in constant communication with local and state health officials, provide regular updates to our families, teachers, and staff, and work to be as agile and responsive in our decision-making as possible. This latest decision has been made in an abundance of caution for the health and safety of our community and with an eye towards sharing responsibility with the broader community to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

Though current plans are to return on March 30, 2020, we will continue to monitor the situation and will make every effort to follow public safety guidelines. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Mrs. Leslie Orsburn

Rio Hondo Prep Principal
