RHP Weekly Parent Email for Tuesday, March 17, 2020

Dear Parents,

I trust all of you are settling in to your home-school environment!

Before the general announcements, I want to let you know how amazed our WASC accrediting committee was with your children and their learning progress.  Each member of the committee saw the “Kare” throughout all ages, including their interviews with parents, teachers and administrators.  They wanted you to know what a special and unique community we have at Pearl, RHP and Kare.

At our end, we are thankful that we were able to complete our visit BEFORE school activities were suspended.  Following their visit, the WASC committee makes recommendations to the accrediting commission, who in turn will notify the school about their next term of accreditation, which is generally for the six years or through June of 2026.  The committee very much appreciated the school’s diligence in the self-study process and praised the quality of the report and our future plans.

CLASS UPDATES

Thank you for your cooperation in this new situation.  All of the teachers are working to interact with their students for these two weeks.

We are working to move all course work to Google Classroom.  Many of your children already use this for some classes – but we are working together to get the whole faculty on the same platform.  All teachers should have their Google Classrooms ready by tomorrow morning if they are not already available.  Google Classroom is available free on the App store for phones, tablets, etc.   For computers – simply go to   classroom.google.com

We are working to make it easier for students to connect directly with their classes from the RHP Website – by having direct links to all teachers on a single faculty page.   We hope to launch that soon.

FACILITY and OFFICE UPDATES

As you know, following public health recommendations, we are holding no activities at any Kare facility.  This is in effect through March 29; however, it may be extended if we are directed to keep students at home.  Please follow the advice of all public health warnings –to keep your children at home and stay away from any public places.  We would love to be having our students working together – but are following advice very carefully.

RHP Office hours for the present are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am -12:30 –and 1:00-4:00 pm.  Mrs. Loomis will be available by phone in the office as well.  Mrs. Loomis is emailing out lunch bills to those who owe.  Remember that all lunch statements should be at a zero balance or above.  This is a great time to clear this up.  Please stop by the office or make an online lunch payment on the RHP Website – “Make a Payment” link: https://form.jotform.com/200076547441148

For RHP – if your student needs to retrieve something from a locker, it is fine to do so – but I would advise taking all school materials home in one trip.  Band students should come to the school office tomorrow between 8 and 3:30 to pick up music folders and get their instruments from the band shed for home practice.  Mr. Kirby will have a Google Classroom for more information.

As was mentioned last week, we will not be holding the Spring Festival on March 26th as originally planned.  Neither will we hold RHP Open House on April 1st.  We are looking into alternatives.

For now, stay healthy and enjoy the opportunity to spend time with your children – this break from their busy schedules gives you a chance for some quality family time together.  There are many online activities like art lessons, craft ideas, visual museum tours, etc.

Be sure that they have a daily schedule to complete school work, but make breaks for exercise, fresh air and other recreation.  A lot of students are enjoying interacting remotely with their classmates – we know they really miss their daily socialization.

Thank you again for your support during these difficult times for our communities.  Please let us know if you are having difficulty connecting with any teachers.  We are here to help.

Mrs. Leslie Orsburn

Principal
